Tobalina's Casanova

"Carlos Tobalina's The New Erotic Adventures of Casanova 1 & 2 starring John Holmes is exactly what it says on the tin- a film made by a director who can't direct starring an actor who can't act. I know Tobalina has lots of admirers, but the guy is awful. And Holmes has never been able to emote. He even looks totally uninvolved during his sex scenes. This Vinegar Syndrome DVD looks as good as can be expected. And we do get to look at Danielle and Kay Parker, so it's not a total loss. My photo has the real Casanova- better looking than Holmes!!!"

Not as advertised!

"Apparently this was originally supposed to be one film, but was later split into two. For whatever reason the second part didn't arrive for many years, not that anyone probably cared. The first movie starts with a scene featuring Gene Wilder and Donald Sutherland, which I believe was stolen from 'Start the Revolution Without Me'. From that point on it starts to look a bit cheaper, which is hardly surprising, although really it looks a lot better than your average Tobalina movie. The biggest problem in terms of the sex is that it jumps from one scene to another, then to another. . . to the point where you have no idea what's going on and it's in no way erotic. Additionally, it keeps zooming in on some sad case who is jerking himself off while he watches the action (not me!) and that's very distracting and weird. In terms of the content, the trailer would have you believe this is all set in the 1700s, but that's not the case at all. If anything the second one is much closer to the trailer for the first film, but then if it was split in two then that might explain this to some extent. Speaking of being split in two, there's a John Holmes scene involving three young girls claiming to be 13, 15 and 16. I doubt it's true, but there's an obvious moral issue (I know it's porn, but even so!). The three of them get it on, so that's some simulated underage incest right there, followed by a right good seeing to from Holmes. And then there's another scene involving a girl and her brother. . . uh. . . yeah. The women in this are great looking, but the theme is that they are either acting or claiming to be very young, which makes for uncomfortable viewing. The second feature starts really well. The first hour is absolutely fine, then it starts to flashback to the first, almost like a highlights reel. And then the last fifteen minutes is footage from other CT films set to silly music, presumably just to pad out the runtime. A bit of a shame, because arguably part two wasn't that bad up till that point, but there it is. Overall I can't recommend it, but it's not the worst thing I've seen (particularly by Tobalina standards!)."
