One of the more prolific, though sadly forgotten, filmmakers from the autumn of theatrical X rated films, presented here are two of Paul Vatelli’s early features which amply demonstrate his technical skill and artful eye.
In I LIKE TO WATCH, shy young Laura (Bridgette Monet) lives in a Victorian mansion with her aunt. While her boyfriend (Mike Horner) presumes that she’s saving herself, Laura is actually craving to explore her sexuality. After spying on the lascivious goings on in her house, she begins seeking out her own torrid experiences. Taking advantage of the vignette structure of the story to show off some of his finest camerawork, along with dreamy editing from Michael Zen, I LIKE TO WATCH co-stars Pat Manning, Linda Shaw and Little Oral Annie.
Shot back to back with I LIKE TO WATCH, SORORITY SWEETHEARTS follows the carnal hi-jinx of a group of lusty sorority sisters and their voluptuous house mother (Lisa DeLeeuw), over the course of one pleasure filled day…and night.
Both films are presented on Blu-ray for the first time, newly scanned and restored from their original 35mm negatives.

"I always like double bills and this is a good one with I Like To Watch and Sorority Sweethearts both delivering on their titles. The latter is bit more lively while the former is the more erotically charged of the two. There are no special features but no complaints about either transfer, the films look better than ever."
"First feature is 'I Like To Watch'. If Brian De Palma made a porn movie then this would probably be it, as voyeurism is firmly top of the agenda. Indeed, one of the actresses in this film did appear in Body Double and perhaps not a coincidence. The film opens with a blistering scene between Pat Manning and Ben Affleck lookalike Herschel Savage as the niece watches on. Next up 'Little Oral Annie' gets it on with a guy while a maid (Gretchen) watches on. This scene is absolute dynamite and watching LOA's breasts bouncing about is quite a sight (all ending with an anal scene). LOA then confronts Gretchen about having watched them and the two of them get it on in an incredibly hot lesbian scene. Oral Annie dons a strap-on and unlike a lot of these scenes, actually does a decent job of moving her hips (can't be easy with a loosely attached appendage not being a part of the body when you're thrusting). After this we get to see Bridgette Monet and DeLeeuw getting it on, which is another incredible scene. The storyline really isn't all that special, but it serves the purpose of setting up the next scene and keeping you interested. From this point on it gets a little less sexy and the final third could never really match the start, but it's so much better than a lot of other movies from this time and those soon to follow. Also for some reason there's a completely out of place slapstick comedy scene which appears for apparently no reason, unfortunately cheapening the film somewhat. What is very notable about this film is just how erotic the sex scenes are and the camera angles (a lot of 'mons pubis' on show). It's well filmed and lit, with a great score. I believe this was coming towards the end of the golden age and although it lacks the storyline of other films with a desire to be considered mainstream, it certainly doesn't lack the quality. Reading a far better review than this on a well known film review site, I discovered the director was actually very good when it came to cinematography and lighting, which really just confirmed the conclusion I had already drawn. He makes the women look their very best and the difference between this and something shot by (for example) Ray Dennis Steckler truly is night and day. Sadly the director Vatelli died of an AIDS-related illness probably not all that long after, but you get to see him making a short cameo in this film (wearing sunglasses). Mike Horner with his cheesy looking moustache gets the last two sex scenes, one of which involves some nice shots of mannequins! This was shot back-to-back with the second feature, which explains it sharing a lot of the same cast members. . . Sorority Sweethearts follows some girls who are stuck at college together (or university. . . whatever it's called in the US!). It starts off well enough with a fairly hot sex scene. Sadly there's no Little Oral Annie in this one, which is a pity. Ben Affleck lookalike Herschel Savage only appears briefly in an acting only role and with him getting out of the flash sports car and acting like a jerk, it reminds me somewhat of Dazed and Confused! There's some well filmed and acted dialogue followed by an amazing lesbian scene involving Bridgette Monet and (I think) Linda Shaw. Much like the first feature, the final third never really matches up to the start but given both films set such high standards, that's not saying a lot. Apparently Monet's voice was a turn-off for some and had been dubbed previous to this, but I like it. I think I'd only seen her before in 'Stiff Competition' (another favourite of mine, although very different in tone). What makes both features on this release so good is that the performances don't feel like performances, rather that the actors and actresses are genuinely into it. That's the difference between good and bad porn, at least for me, as all the modern stuff is far too clinical and lacks any emotion. To quote Al Pacino's Ricky Roma 'The great f*cks you may have had, what do you remember about them. . . I don't know for me, it's probably not the orgasm. Some broads' forearm on your neck, something her eyes did. . . it was the sound she made'. Life-changing this might not be, but it is full of these little moments (an example being the closeups showing eye contact between Monet and De Leeuw - you certainly wouldn't see that in 'Busty Euro Sluts 15' etc. ). The only negative aspect of this is a few too many male reaction shots in the second feature, which as mentioned in the movie Don Jon is a terrible thing. Final thoughts to conclude this essay: The sorority house reminds me of the filming location for 'Don't Go In The House'. Both movies are well filmed and Monet in particular is stunning, as are a lot of the other women. I have to mark it down by one due to the heavy presence of tattoos in the second feature (just my own personal feelings, they're a huge turn off). That being said, the director does a great job of lighting and filming everything in such a way that it makes everyone look their very best and this is pretty much as good as it gets when it comes to 80s porn."
"Late golden period director Paul Vatelli double. Lis De Leeuw/Bridgette Monet/ Mike Horner. . . All proving that good stuff was still being made towards the end of the golden age of adult cinema!"
"One of my all-time favourite Peek releases. The films are S-tier and some of the best the label has ever released. Highly recommended!"
