Every Way But Both Ways

"Porn went in a lot directions, but Both Ways is definitely an outlier. But an interesting one."

Brock T. (3/5)

Awkwardly groundbreaking

"Is "Both Ways" a good movie? In a filmmaking sense, not really. Jerry Douglas reveals in the commentary that he was still learning his craft and it shows. Odd editing, static setups, just an overall ramshackle feel, but damn, there's something oddly endearing and sincere about it. It plays at times almost like an afterschool special with adult themes and sex, but the committed performances of the cast help until it goes off the rails story wise toward the end. Bonus points to Douglas for his location filming in Connecticut and Manhattan. . . where else are you going to see footage of the Danbury Fair, Yale and an actual grocery store in an adult film."

Unsurprisingly enjoyable. The plot is

"Unsurprisingly enjoyable. The plot is solid and the scenes are enough for any fan. What a great release. Maybe they will one day do a blu-ray!!"

Matthew K. (5/5)

Very saucy

"You don't get a lot of plots like this from this particular period. Recommended."

Kyle G. (5/5)

okay release

"not my favorite release but not a bad watch"

Zachary W. (3/5)

A groundbreaking little film!

"The plot of this Jerry Douglas film concerns a man, with the seemingly perfect marriage, dealing with the secret of having a male lover. Things were a lot less open minded in the mid 1970's, and for its time this was a pretty shocking adult film. The scenes with Andrea True and her husband Gerald Grant are well acted. The quality of the film, from plot to execution is simply great. You also get Darby Lloyd Raines in a supporting role, and a commentary track from director Jerry Douglas to round out the impact of this landmark film."

Thomas M. (5/5)

Bi Bi Bi Bi

"I've heard of going both ways, but this is ridiculous!"

Science Fiction Styled Marketing

"Considered cutting edge in its day I imagine; not the best feature for overall quality, but for what it is it was restored well."

Jason L. (4/5)

drama

"actually works quite well as a drama if there were no sex scenes ( both hetro and gay)"

KEVIN S. (4/5)

domestic drama with a twist

"Bought this to have some variety, but can't say I thought too much of it. Just not my thing. The few women in it are fine, at least they're natural. The video quality is adequate for DVD, but many other VS DVD's have looked far better."
