Private investigator Nick Popodopolis (John Leslie) has a problem: there's a corpse of a beautiful woman (Juliet Anderson) on the floor of his office. As he explains his case to an alcoholic lieutenant (Cameron Mitchell), a strange story of blackmail, mystery and murder unfolds, all centered on an enigmatic movie star, Dixie Ray (Lisa De Leeuw).

Anthony Spinelli's big budget WWII era set noir ranks as one of the last truly ambitious X rated movies ever made. With an all star cast that also features Kelly Nichols, Veronica Hart and Samantha Fox, the film was released in both X and R rated versions, both of which are presented here fully restored from their original 35mm negatives.

Steamy Noir

"This is the 80s hardcore porn film that Cameron Mitchell appeared in and apparently didn't know it was a porno until afterwards. Pretty good steamy, sexy noir film that tries to tell some mystery while keeping things interesting. The threesome between Veronica Hart, Samantha Fox and John Leslie is worth the price of admission alone. Restoration looks amazing and you can watch the unrated version just for the story."

Great dialogue and adult scenes

"This one has the best plot of Vinegar Syndrome adult titles I have seen. The action is good, too. Seriously not a super cheesy plot, which is so rare."

Kevin K. (5/5)

Well made

"fine release, not a big fan of the movie itself"

Zachary W. (3/5)

Overlooked

"Of the standalone DVD features, this is one of the best, imo."

They don't make them like this anymore

"A tribute to film noir by means of adult cinema. Really solid transfer, especially considering it's a DVD release. Please consider upgrading this one!"

Back when porn tried

"I watched the R version (Murder, Baby!) It's a decent little noir flick, one that's just incredibly horny."

Lisa DeLeeuw is Dixie Star

"Lia DeLeeuw starring as a hollywood star on a dive. A typical film noir P.I. story with good ambience and some hot action. Just it´s in color and rated x. A nice surprise to find it as an R rated cut as a bonus. it´s called "Murder" Baby. Great DVD. So if you missed out wait for the BD."

Better than I expected!

"I'd been thinking about picking this up in a sale for years, but I thought it really didn't look all that good. However, when I discovered Cameron Mitchell was in it, that all changed! So what we have here are two versions of the same film. As a porn film it's really good. It is well filmed, you don't get too many hairy sweaty men and some of the women are quite frankly stunning. However, there's also an r rated version and that is also very watchable. It plays out like a lot of film noir and it's actually not all that bad. John Leslie was a decent actor, i have to give him that (quite a few of the adult stars were for that matter). So overall I can recommend this for two reasons and just to be clear, Cameron Mitchell doesn't appear in any of the sex scenes (which is a relief)."

Lisa DeLeeuw steals the show

"Anthony Spinelli was one of the best at his craft. Most of his films were story driven with solid scripts and terrific casts. By and large, this is no exception, but it does fall prey to that habit that keeps good adult films from being truly great: one or more completely unnecessary sex scenes. Here, it's the threesome between Veronica Hart, Samantha Fox and John Leslie. Hart and Fox are way too good for such a throwaway scene. The good news is the rest of the movie is pretty solid. The attention to set design, costuming and hairstyles is exemplary for the genre and Lisa DeLeeuw is first rate as the title character. In fact, it's the best I've ever seen her--she hits every note of the character perfectly. The DVD includes both the X-rated cut and the R-rated edit that played cable in the 80's. Found it interesting that the actor's real names (or other stage names as the case may be), are listed in the R-rated credits. The X-rated version is above average for 80's porn; the R-rated is a respectable B minus."
