"I have not seen the Wakamatsu film that inspired this, but I was struck by the resemblance to certain near-contemporaneous films by Jess Franco, particularly Shining Sex, Blue Rita, and Je brûle de partout. All feature some combination of a trafficked harem, drug-induced nymphomania, and brainwashed political assassinations. Unfortunately, Bob Chinn has little of the style and formal obsessions of Franco, and so the film itself fails to live up to the outrageousness of its premise. It is still intermittently fun, with some great Bay Area driving footage."
