The crown jewel of sophisticated erotica, filmmaker Cecil Howard's COMMAND CINEMA presents lavish Blu-ray and 4K UHD editions of Howard's own masterworks, alongside those he produced with other hardcore auteurs such as Chuck Vinecent, Roberta Findlay, and Armand Weston.

International rock sensation Lola Rain has long hidden her dark personal life of substance abuse and cheap sex. As this downward spiral threatens to overcome her success, Lola's  husband/manager Luke Frame becomes exceedingly concerned about his own reputation. He thus hatches a plan for her to "accidentally" overdose, rationalizing that her death will cause him less bad press than poor reception to her concerts. Following her demise, Luke is wracked with guilt, for committing the murder and for having gotten away with it. Plagued by  nightmares and isolated by his crime, Luke's descent begins to mirror that of Lola, and  threatens his sanity. But Luke is suddenly revitalized by the arrival of a mysterious young hitchhiker named Terry. Hoping that Terry will be the key to his redemption, he also fears that Terry could be the reincarnation of Lola seeking vengeance. A gripping, lovesick ghost story, Cecil Howard’s final theatrical feature film STAR ANGEL is an intensely personal meditation on fame and guilt. Starring Jerry Butler (Raw Talent),  Colleen Brennan (aka Sharon Kelly; Taboo III), Chelsea Manchester (aka Tigr; Scoundrels) along with the film's namesake, the incomparably beautiful Angel (Too Naughty to Say No) as Terry. Adapted from a delicately crafted screenplay by Howard’s long-time writing  collaborator, Anne Randall (Firestorm) along with prolific journalist R. Allen Leider  (Liquid Assets), Command Cinema is proud to present the Blu-ray debut of this dually  haunting and heartfelt hardcore classic, newly restored from its best surviving film elements.

    Reviews

    Very good movie

"Impressive hardcore effort. It has good acting from all involved (Jerry Butler and Colleen Brennan especially), solid writing, a killer soundtrack. And Taija Rae is in the movie…one of her best performances, too. Considering the source was a 35mm print, and not the OCN, the picture quality is pretty good. Some scratches, but nothing tragic. Very satisfied with this release."

"Usually adult films from 1985 and younger are not my thing. They tend to focus too much on sex scenes and don't care much about plot. However, I consider Cecil Howard as a really great film maker who knows how to shoot beautiful scenes. This was his last theatrical hardcore film and it's worth a watch. Very stylish direction and lighting. Jerrry Butler who plays the lead is not necessarily among my favorite adult actors. He's alright here though. The women are beautiful and look VERY 80s. Unfortunately the disc is basically bare bones with only a trailer and an image gallery. A booklet would have been nice. The restoration looks great, but they didn't have the OCN as a source though."

    Very good

"Very good Cecil Howard movie. Seems like the ones I see from him all have a dark vibe with death as a theme, and this is no different. Colleen Brennan shows herself to be a very good actress in addition to being sexy. Her scene with Angel is pretty hot. And I also really liked Taija Rae, and her scenes with Ron Jeremy, which were funny."

    Angel at her Best

"Fantastic resolution, perfect packaging. Wish the other Angel movies were available."

    — Louis H. (5/5)

    Very nice release overall!

"Great release with excellent scenes, talent and a good director. Nice transfer and cover-art. Very nice release overall!"

    Latter-Day Cecil Howard

"This is Cecil Howard's last theatrical XXX movie, and given its abbreviated runtime and a bit of re-used footage from another production, you can tell he's running on fumes, but there's still plenty to like here in terms of style. If you're a fan of his other XXX psychodramas, it's worth checking out and is a nice presentation. Streamlined release but nevertheless effective - nice scan from the negative, trailer, and an ephemera gallery. Not a huge amount of special features, but that's preferable to a bunch of half-hearted stuff that's just taking up space. Like the movie, this is stripped down but effective, worth picking up if you're curious to see what those who were still trying were up to in the dying days of the Golden Age."

    — John K. (4/5)

Dark and brooding '80s adult fare.

"Command Cinema has finally started to include subtitles on their releases. That's important to me because Howard's films are clearly more ambitious than your average pornographic feature. The subject matter goes deeper and penetrates (ahum) beyond merely having a coat hanger on which to hang a couple of sex scenes. Here the acting, story, emotional weight and visual look are just as important as the multiple sexual interactions. The kind of film that you don't turn off after having your fix but finish to know how the story ends."

    — Tim V. (5/5)

Another good one from Cecil Howard

"Star Angel is another good release from Cecil Howard. Cover girl Angel is okay, but Colleen Brennan gives an appealing performance as usual. Extras are just a trailer and image gallery."

    — Jason M. (4/5)

    Beautiful Cecil Howard Restoration

"Command Cinema does excellent restoration work on another Cecil Howard title, this one with an interesting thriller type story with ghostly elements. The cover isn't really reversible as the interior is just a collage of newspaper ads for the film, though this is still neat. It's nice that they include the trailer too."

    — Sam N. (5/5)

    Decent Cecil Howard Film

"If you're familiar with Cecil Howard's work you will know he often focuses on the deeper psychological end of things, with an openness to how adult content impacts these elements. This time it's murder and deceit that re-starts a record producer's career. A good effort is made here to differ itself from other run of the mill thrillers, but it never goes too deep to take itself seriously. Quite a nice looking film, and well worth owning for having something a little different in your collection."
