Brazil’s “Boca do Lixo,” or “Mouth of Garbage” film movement yielded some of the most outrageous and original genre films of the early to mid 80s, yet despite their copious amounts of sex, violence, and often madcap plotlessness, very few were ever distributed outside of their native country. Vinegar Syndrome proudly presents the world Blu-ray debuts of two Boca-styled women-in-prison classics:

AMAZON JAIL (Curral de Mulheres) - 93 min
Deep in the Amazon, dozens of beautiful women are being held hostage in bamboo huts, waiting to be sold on the white slave market. The operation is run by Edgar, a perverted drunk, and Helena, a vicious lesbian. However, when Edgar’s young nephew attempts to help the women escape from their tropical prison, the group are quick to learn that the jungle is no less trecherous…
An exceedingly crass take on the women-in-prison genre, Oswaldo de Oliveira’s AMAZON JAIL features Brazilian matinee idol, Elizabeth Hartmann along with character actors Maurício do Valle, Sergio Hingst, and Vanessa Alves and is presented in a stunning new 4K restoration of its original 35mm negative.

AMAZON JAIL II (Prisioneiras da Selva Amazônica) - 74 min
When a group of tribeswomen are kidnaped, to be sold to a Japanese white slave trader, they find unlikely aid in the men who have been hired to transport them to captivity. Fleeing with the girls, the unlikely traveling companions become lost in the jungle, having to contend with unexpected dangers - both human and animal. But their would-be slaver, and his dwarf assistant, are unwilling to give up on such a prize catch so easily…
Part jungle adventure and part crime-thriller, Conrado Sanchez’ AMAZON JAIL II blends action and T&A, with an all but surreal sense of self-parody and stars Vanessa Alves alongside Brazilian cult actor, Chumbinho and is presented newly restored in 4K for the first time!

Reviews
Totally disappointed
"The film is not remastered and not even in 4k! It only has a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. It looks good. The discs are original, I'm convinced! The package arrived "quickly" and intact. The film looks like something with a low budget! A bad joke! A few sequences with naked women but no action, nothing epic in it! It looks like it was made by an amateur! I was expecting something like "Schiave Bianche - Violenza In Amazzonia (1985)" even though it was made 3 years later! All respect for Vinegar Syndrome and the Fedex courier company! Vinegar did not direct the film! In the future, I only want to receive packages through the Fedex courier company! Both Vinegar and Fedex are serious companies!"

Never heard of this one.
"Never heard of this one. Very happy with the artwork. Movies were also alot of fun. Delivery time to Canada as usual was so quick. Love it."

Caged Women
"I had a lot of fun with with this one. Lots of nudity great music and actually has a story to it. Unfortunately the Portuguese Audio is on the muffled side but the English audio is a lot clearer sounding. The picture is clear and beautiful."

Brazil sleaze
"Amazon Jail is an entertaining enough piece of sleaze, but never quite as nasty or violent as the Italian countrparts. The women also look a bit too "clean", not as hairy & skanky as the Italian ones, or the benchmark- Jess Franco! The second film is not really a sequel & is quite awful, featuring too much comedy & not enough sex & violence. There's also not really a jail, & the women have bizarre cavegirl-ish costumes for some reason. As for the extras, again the trailer is omitted, which was on the Blue Underground release. It really shouldn't be that hard to include trailers should it? I'm also not a fan of woke feminist analysis of these types of films which is what we get in the extras."

Two great films!
"Two great films!"

Campy jungle exploitation double bill
"Both films are pure pulpy jungle exploitation: low-budget, sleazy, and very much products of their time. The stories are simple, but there’s plenty of wild, over-the-top moments and unintentionally funny bits if you enjoy this kind of trashy cinema. Vinegar Syndrome’s restorations look surprisingly strong, with stable grain and much cleaner visuals than you’d ever expect for these titles."

Jungle boobs
"Looking for boobs in the jungle? You got it."
— Justin G. (4/5)
Ok, but. . .
"A wild, exploitative adventure set in the jungle. Over-the-top action and campy moments make it entertaining for fans of B-movie escapades. Not really my kind of movies. . ."
