Pauline (Pauline LaMonde), a wealthy and bored socialite, has a secret relationship with an opium smoking tarot card reading mystic, known only as Gypsy (Dominique Santos). Recording and reporting on her various sexual experiences, as well as those of her friends, Pauline and Gypsy each use each other to explore their darkest sexual and emotional recesses. But as Pauline begins to pull away from her emotional connection to Gypsy, Gypsy herself realizes that she must keep Pauline under her control at all costs.

The notorious debut feature from future acclaimed filmmaker 'Jimmy Boy L.', 9 LIVES OF A WET PUSSY, which was shot under the more appropriate title of 'Nothing Sacred,' is a sexual fever-dream laced with astute commentary on religion, class, and general mysticism. Written by 'Nicholas George', and photographed by Francis X. Wolfe (Nightdreams), and with a throbbing, jazz-infused original soundtrack composed by Joseph Delia (Bad Lieutenant, The Addiction), 9 LIVES OF A WET PUSSY has long only been viewable in poor quality and censored editions. Vinegar Syndrome is pleased to present the world Blu-ray debut of this fascinating chapter in New York City made underground cinema, newly restored from its original 35mm camera negative, with its most controversial sequence fully intact for the first time since its initial VHS release in the early 80s.

Abel?

"Nice restoration and hilarious to see Abel performing here. A bit of a classic just from . the title alone and the release is good too! Essential for Abel Ferrara fans to see where it all started. Strange in places but enjoyable in the whole."

Abel Ferrara’s Debut Feature Film!

"Nine Lives of a Wet Pussy (1976) marks Abel Ferrara’s very first feature as director. This atmospheric adult film stands out thanks to its strong cinematography and a moody soundtrack that perfectly elevates key scenes, especially the gas station sequence and the controversial “Nigerian princess” segment. It was a real treat to experience the film in its fully uncut version with such a pristine, high-quality transfer. Here’s hoping Vinegar Syndrome eventually gives us a release of the three short films Ferrara directed before this one. That would make for a fascinating look at the very beginning of his career!"

Wouldn't watch it again. More

"Wouldn't watch it again. More of a curiosity than a good film."

Great Title So So Movie

"This movie didn't grab me. It has a very loose plot (no pun intended). I also found it to be quite boring. The transfer and production quality was fine, though. Best thing to me was the title."

Nathan L. (2/5)

fine but could've been better

"its not entirely without plot or food for thought, but it definitely oversells how much depth there is. maybe with a longer runtime or shorter sex scenes this could've been more, but as it stands, it feels like missed potential. still cool to have this movie re-released at all though, despite its flaws"

9 Lives of a Wet Pussy - Review

"“9 Lives of a Wet Pussy” is basically a sexual fever dream without any semblance of plot or direction. There is absolutely no dialogue and the story moves forward through monologues and inner thoughts presented from the perspective of two different women, the relation of whom is revealed in the end. The explicit scenes are almost continuous with the female protagonist being in all of them and the other partners being blank slates for which we don't know anything. One other thing that I found weird is that the explicit scenes were mostly 'non' explicit. For the most part everything was hidden in the shadows, or the camera cuts just before showing the saucy stuff. As if the director wasn't 100% committed and wanted an easy way to edit it later. Even though it is obvious that the acts performed are real, the movie feels like a softcore with inserts like the ones that were very popular in Europe during the 70s."

Buy it for the Title

"Movie: I found this to be very dull overall. The sex isn't particularly interesting unless you love closeups of oral. The character who breaks the 4th wall is somewhat interesting, but the "plot" doesn't really hold together, so the movie is really just disconnected scenes bolted together. Having that main narrating character have a (now) problematic name is probably just laziness, but having the only black female character experience SA from the only black male characters feels like more of a choice. The incest scene at least feels somewhat motivated by the relevant biblical passage. Extras: The trailer is neat to have."

Great movie great release

"With time this one has turned out to be a really interesting, early entry in Ferrara's filmography. I didn't like it as a kid, or before I started to see the fun in watching more pornography from its so-called golden age, but now I'm older and wiser. It's true that it can't completely free itself from certain porn clichés, but everything we love about Ferrara is practically present here: The patriarchal power structures and the women who have to try to live under them; the critique of capitalism; Catholicism; the big city as a jungle; his special transcendent realism; Pasolini vs. Warhol delivered in Ferrara's original mixture. It's all present here, even when the pornography was supposedly actually mostly a step on the way for him getting to know the film medium better. And then there's his ability to often get several of the same names on the film crew to step up and deliver low-budget, gutter-level filmmaking like no other. Ferrara is the king. The release comes with a great commentary track!"
