Presented in partnership with Something Weird Video...

From nudies to roughies to ultra weird regional curiosities, the sexploitation world welcomed any filmmaker working in any genre, so long as the limits of nudity and sex on screen were pushed as far as they could go - but never all the way. DISTRIBPIX, one of the legendary names in the genre (and whose extensive library will be the backbone of this line), will offer single, double, and even triple feature Blu-rays highlighting works from every corner and crevice of softcore smut, from the dawn of nudie cuties to the all-but-hard 70s, with plentiful lost and never on disc films along the way.

A quintessential exploitation filmmaker, the late Joel M. Reed's filmography traversed just about every corner of genre filmmaking, from ultra-gory horror with BLOODSUCKING FREAKS to oddball action with THE G.I. EXECUTIONER. But at the start of his career, like so many working in B-movies, Reed helmed a set of sexploitation films. However, not content to simply offer T&A with a flimsy storyline, Reed instead created what rank as two of the most jaw dropping and demented such efforts ever produced, both of which at last come to Blu-ray, newly scanned and restored in 4K from their 35mm camera negatives from Distribpix + Something Weird.

In Reed's electric debut, CAREER BED, Jennifer Welles (Scorpio 70) stars as Susan, an impressionable young woman on the hard road to cinema stardom. Under the brutal and cruel pressure of her manipulative and jealous mother, Susan's life quickly becomes overtaken with casting couches, lecherous producers, lesbian agents, and general money making scams.

Chock full of jaw droppingly acidic dialogue, delivered through the powerhouse performances of Welles and one-time-player Honey Hunter as Susan's scheming mother, CAREER BED plays like an unhinged mix of underground theatre and classical Hollywood melodrama.

Reed's no-less-strange sophomore feature, SEX BY ADVERTISEMENT, explores the weird world of erotic newspaper ads in a mondo-film styled pastiche. Hosted by Dr. Joanne Ridgefield (soon-to-be-superstar Georgina Spelvin in one of her earliest roles), all manners of perversity are uncovered, from hippie love-ins, violent sadists, transvestites, dirty photographers, and much more. Co-starring Warhol superstar Geri Miller (Trash, High Rise), this wild and wacky ride effortlessly manages to shock from beginning to end.

An intriguing collection of exploitation cinema!

"For my full detailed review of these films, see my entry on Letterboxd: @M4N14K Wowza, talk about starting off your career in the obscure, deep, dark end of the genre pool! I viewed this film on the Career Bed + Sex By Advertisement AFGA Vinegar Syndrome Blu-ray Limited Edition physical media release and it is the same great premium level of packaging and presentation that you’ve come to expect from the generic releases of this boutique label. No other brand beats Vinegar Syndrome at the cardboard game and this great slipcover is no exception to the consistently fantastic artwork and component quality this company produces."

Something Weird + Distribpix 4-ever

"A great pair of films. I love the Something Weird + Distribpix releases, the packaging is always so good! Case-wrapped outer slipcase, double-walled inner slipcase, both with spot-gloss, and the booklets are always on point. Excellent design & realization."

Need more Reed

"Even if they’re not as gory or sick as Bloodsucking Freaks, these two sleazy pieces of sexploitation offer enough depravity. Great release!"

massimiliano m. (5/5)

Good entry

"Career Bed is much better than Sex by Advertisment. Campy exploitation by way of a prime time soap it’s pretty hilarious."

Worthy Addition

"Must have for Jennifer Welles fans"

Great Joel Reed/Jennifer Welles Blu-Ray!

"This is a superb, must have disc! The pictue and sound are excellent (and the movies are good, too). An excellent package with a hardcover case and wonderful booklet. Great performances from Jennifer Welles and Georgina Spelvin. A must have for fans of 1960s sexploitation."

Dennis C. (5/5)

Before Bloodsucking Freaks, Joel did other freakouts!

"I basically knew the director only of his film Bloodsucking Freaks. Well, these sexploitation, B&W films are also seriously freaky while also shot exceptionally well. I think I prefer Career Bed because I generally more focused stories (Sex By Advertisement is a lot looser in that regard). There is enough kinky stuff in here to make it an engaging watch. These sets by Distribpix are amazing and look like centerpieces in your collection"

Tim V. (5/5)

Typically great Distribpix package

"The Distribpix package design is very nice, and I always like getting a booklet with information, essays and good pictures. The A-Side "Career Bed" is great fun, with nice displays of future hardcore stars Jennifer Welles and Georgina Spelvin. And I really enjoyed the wicked stage mother character played by Honey Hunter. Her only movie role apparently, but she was fun. Great body that she was willing to capture on film for guys like me to admire 60 years later. Cheers, Honey!"

Adam C. (4/5)

Solid Distripix

"Two Joel Reed sexploitation flicks featuring the incomparable Jennifer Wells. Beautiful transfer and restoration, packed with extras and an incredibly over the top slip case, hard box + booklet package."

Ben C. (5/5)

More DPIX greatness
